Open Mother Tongue
Go to Old → Core → Mother Tongue. These are the existing reference-list indexes; Create, View and Edit open the original child screens, and Delete retains its original confirmation and server checks.
Choose your layout
Classic opens first unless you saved another institute-specific preference. Try the new layout and View old layout switch both ways. Make this my default or Make old layout my default saves one choice shared by Manage Religion, Mother Tongue and Student Group/Discipline. Explicit layout links override it for a visit; failed preference saves keep the previous choice with Retry. Layout choice grants no permissions, saves no reference row and sends no message.
Loaded list scope
Column filters use the original server requests. Sorting and paging use the loaded rows with the original default of 50 rows per page and original related-user sort accessors. Mother Tongue uses the loaded server page; this layout does not fetch additional server pages or claim a complete server list.
Files and browser Print
Excel and PDF export the displayed page. These indexes have no row-selection control. Browser Print includes the displayed page, with no separate report Print action. It does not expand to all matching loaded rows. Column order and visibility remain the original grid settings.
Pending and failed reads
The grid first mounts after a successful response. Later loading or failure hides the stale grid while retaining its mounted state. Filters, sorting, paging and files are blocked during that read. Retry repeats the failed list query. Existing Create access checks and row actions are unchanged; the layout adds no access grant.
