School mobile apps request updates when a newer version is available; changes to features or navigation can make them look different. EDUBase releases new features and app updates regularly.
Why does a school app ask for an update?
An update prompt generally means a newer version of the installed app is available. Across mobile apps, releases can introduce features, revise navigation or address software problems. The exact reason for a particular prompt depends on that release; the prompt alone does not explain every change.
EDUBase releases new features and app updates regularly. Its Parents, Teachers, Owners and QR Attendance apps are published on Google Play. When someone reports an update request, first establish which app they use and what the message says.
- Record the app name and the wording of the update prompt.
- Check the app's Google Play listing for any available release information.
- Ask which task the person was trying to complete when the prompt appeared.
Why might the app look different afterwards?
In mobile software generally, an update can change the position, appearance or wording of controls. A familiar task may therefore require a different route. A changed layout alone does not establish that records have been removed or that a feature is unavailable.
Compare the task before and after the update: what the user wants to do, what they can currently see and where they become stuck. This gives the office a clearer support question than simply reporting that the app looks different.
- Describe the affected task, such as checking fees, reading the diary or marking attendance.
- Record any error message separately from a change in appearance.
- Avoid promising a particular explanation until the reported behaviour has been checked.
How should admin staff help parents and teachers?
Start with the person's role. The EDUBase Parents App lets parents follow attendance, fees, marks, diary and notices, apply for leave, message the school and receive PTM invitations. The EDUBase Teachers App supports attendance marking, diary entries, PTMs with voice notes, messages and access to the teacher's own attendance, notices and payslip.
For parent access questions, EDUBase App Links provides store links and download links that staff can copy into a message. If the issue concerns a parent's one-time login code, the Parents App OTP Portal lets permitted staff look up the code when the SMS does not arrive.
- Confirm whether the difficulty concerns installation, login or a task inside the app.
- Use the relevant app link when directing a family to the download.
- Keep login help separate from questions about changed navigation.
Could school settings explain a missing feature?
An update is only one possible explanation for a different experience. EDUBase also gives schools controls over app access and content. Parent App Privileges can warn or block app features by months overdue, with per-student overrides; fee details and contact us are never blocked.
Schools can choose when examination marks become visible in the Parents App. Communication Settings determines whether parents may message teachers directly and which staff are reachable. Check the relevant setting before concluding that an update caused the difference.
- For unavailable results, check whether the school has released marks to parents.
- For messaging access, review Communication Settings.
- For restricted parent features, review Parent App Privileges.
Where can staff get help with an unfamiliar change?
EDUBase provides an in-app Docs page, tutorial videos and an AI support assistant. The assistant answers how-to questions in English or Roman Urdu and links to the relevant screen and tutorial video. These resources can help staff understand the supported route for a task.
For unresolved questions, support is available through the school's WhatsApp group and by phone, with live help from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on working days. Share the app name, affected task, exact message and steps already tried so the issue can be understood.
How to distinguish common app update and access questions
| What the user reports | What it may involve | What admin staff should check |
|---|---|---|
| An update prompt | A newer app version is available | The app name, prompt wording and Google Play listing |
| Different navigation | A release may have changed the route to a task | The task the person needs and where they become stuck |
| Parent cannot log in | A problem receiving or using the one-time login code | Parents App OTP Portal when the SMS does not arrive |
| Marks are unavailable | The school controls when results are released to parents | Whether marks have been made visible in the Parents App |
| Parent features are restricted | School-configured restrictions may apply | Parent App Privileges and any per-student override |
| Parent cannot message a teacher | School messaging permissions may limit access | Communication Settings |
