One award list can carry several subjects. When its Student Filtering is Subject Wise, the children on it do not all take all of them — and the marks screen now says so.
Why a child is on a list for a subject they do not take
A Subject Wise list picks up every student who takes at least one of its subjects. That is what makes a combined list useful: one sheet, one invigilator, several papers. But it also means an English + Chemistry list carries the English-only children and the Chemistry-only children together.
What you will see now
- A box for a subject the child does not take is locked and labelled Not assigned. You cannot type in it, and Absent / Leave cannot be ticked for it either.
- Total is now per student, and the heading of each row’s total shows what that child is being marked out of. A child taking one of three subjects is out of that one subject’s marks, not out of all three.
- The subject is left out of that child’s total, not scored zero. A zero would put them below every child who actually sat the paper, in every report that ranks.
- The printed award list shows the same locked boxes, so the sheet the invigilator carries matches the screen.
This applies to Subject Wise lists only. A Class Wise list is you saying “everyone in this class sits all of these”, so nothing is locked there.
If a box is locked and it should not be
The child’s subject list is the authority. Open Exam & Attendance › Subject Allocation (or the student’s admission form), tick the subject, save, and reopen the marks screen.
A child whose subjects have never been filled in is never locked out of anything — with nothing recorded, EDUBase does not claim to know what they take.
Removing a subject from a list that already has marks
Open Edit on the award list and press Remove subject beside the subject you want gone. You will be told exactly how many entered marks will be destroyed, and asked to confirm.
Two things this deliberately will not do:
- It will not remove the last subject — an award list with no subjects is not a thing. Delete the whole award list instead.
- You can no longer remove a subject by deleting its row on the edit form and saving. Once marks exist, that quietly moved every mark above it onto the wrong subject and the wrong teacher, so it is now refused with a message pointing you here.
Adding a subject to a list that already has marks is still fine: a new subject goes on the end and moves nothing.
Update Marks and SMS opens ready to use
The page now loads this month’s award lists straight away — from the 1st to today — instead of waiting for you to pick dates and press Submit. Change the dates whenever you want a different range.
Your chosen range is also remembered while you work: edit a list, save it, and you come back to the same lists you were looking at.
Students added after the list was made
Add New Student puts newly enrolled children onto an existing award list. On Update Marks those children now arrive ticked, with 0 in their marks boxes, ready to be typed over.
They used to arrive unticked, and saving the page then deleted the marks of everyone unticked. That is fixed on both sides: the tick is right, and unticking a student now retires their marks recoverably rather than destroying them.
