A child's subjects have always lived on their admission form, one child at a time. Subject Allocation is the same field, for a whole class at once.
Where it is
Exam & Attendance → Subject Allocation. Nobody can open it until you grant it: tick Exam :: Subject Allocation in Admin → Users & Privileges. Even the school's own staff logins start without it.
How to use it
- Choose the campus and the class. Section is optional — leave it empty for the whole class.
- Press Show Students. Every enrolled child appears with the subjects they currently hold.
- Change subjects on any row, or tick several rows and use Add, Remove or Replace to do them together.
- Press Save Changes.
The gear above the grid is the same grid settings you have everywhere else: choose which columns you want to see and drag them into the order you want. It is remembered for your login.
What Save actually writes
- It writes only the rows you edited. A child you did not touch is not re-saved, and does not appear in their change log. The line above the button tells you how many students are about to be written.
- What is ticked becomes the whole list. Saving replaces that child's subjects with exactly what you can see against their name — it does not add to what was there. So unticking a subject removes it.
- All or nothing. If any row fails its check, nothing at all is saved and the message says which student and why.
Two things this screen does that the admission form does not
- It can clear a child's subjects. On the admission edit form, removing every subject leaves the old list in place. Here, an empty row saves as empty.
- It only offers the subjects attached to the class. The admission form lists every subject in the school. If a subject you expect is missing, it is not attached to that class — attach it in Exam & Attendance → Settings → Subjects in Classes and come back.
Occasionally a child carries a subject their class does not teach — usually left behind by a class move. Those are shown ticked and marked not in this class, so you can see them and decide. You can remove one; you cannot add one.
Why it matters beyond the admission form
These links are what Subject Wise award lists read. With Student Filtering set to Subject Wise, only children who hold that subject appear on its list — so a class whose subjects were never filled in produces short award lists, and this is the screen that fixes it in one pass.
Who changed what
Every change is recorded against the student, exactly as an edit on the admission form is. Open any student's Change Log from the Manage Students grid to see it, with the date and the person who made it.
