Admissions › Challan Discounts lists discounts given on challans — the student, their Family No, the challan and the amount taken off.
If the cashier's user has Two Step Challan Payment Approval switched on, each discount they give is also listed on Admissions › Pending Approvals Discounts — the same screen filtered to what a super admin has not yet approved. The discount reduces the challan straight away either way; approval is a review step, not a hold (see "Where do pending payment and discount approvals wait").
Steps
- Give the discount while receiving the payment on the pay/print challan screen — the Discount / Bad Debt column, which needs a discount account assigned to your user
- If the cashier is on two-step approval, it also appears under Admissions › Pending Approvals Discounts for a super admin to approve
- Admissions › Challan Discounts is the record of everything given
Printing from this screen
Tick rows and press Print Horizontal or Print Vertical — each opens a preview of the challans those discounts were given on, in that layout, with a Print button. Delete Challans removes the discount entry itself (the challan stays, and its balance goes back up).
Discount type vs discount amount
Two different things, in two places:
- The reason — Sibling, Staff Child, Merit — is defined once on Core › Discount Types
- The figure — how much this family gets — is entered here, per challan
That is why the same reason can be worth a different sum for different families.
Common confusion
"The discount is not reducing the challan." Check it was entered in the Discount column and not as a payment; a pending approval does not stop it counting.
"Approve is not available to me." Only a super admin whose own user has the two-step tick can approve.
"We need the same discount every month." A challan discount applies to the challan it was given on. A standing concession is better handled by putting the family on a fee plan priced for it.
