Four small lists under HRM, all filling dropdowns on the employee form:
| List | Screen | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Department | HRM › Manage Departments | Primary, Secondary, Accounts, Admin |
| Designation group | HRM › Manage Designation Groups | The banding a designation sits in |
| Designation | HRM › Manage Designations | Teacher, Principal, Clerk, Driver |
| Employment type | HRM › Manage Employment Type | Permanent, contract, visiting, probation |
Groups come before designations
On HRM › Manage Designations the first box is Select Designation Group. You cannot save a designation without one, so create the group on HRM › Manage Designation Groups first.
The grouping is what lets shifts and salary rules apply to a whole band of staff at once rather than person by person.
Steps
- HRM › Manage Departments — add your departments
- HRM › Manage Designation Groups — add the groups
- HRM › Manage Designations — pick a group, type the designation name, save
- HRM › Manage Employment Type — add your employment types
Common confusion
"Designation group or department — which one do I use?" A department is the part of the school someone works in; a designation is the job they do. Most schools need both.
"An entry will not delete." Employees are using it. Correct the name instead, or leave it — an unused entry is harmless.
