Admin › Face Attendance Gates — it sits directly under QR Biometric Attendance, because to a school they are the same question asked of two different readers.
Every tablet running the face attendance app registers itself here the first time a member of staff signs it in.
First: somebody has to be given the screen
This is a new privilege and it starts held by nobody — not even your main administrator account. Grant Admin › Face Attendance Gates in Admin › Users & Privileges before anybody tries to use it. If the page loads but the rename box and the status dropdown are greyed out, that account has view access and not edit access.
Name your gates — this is the point of the screen
Gates arrive named whatever the person installing them typed, which in practice means several called "Gate". "Which gate marked my child at 07:42?" cannot be answered while every gate has the same name. Rename them for the door they are actually on — Main Gate In, Girls Wing Out, Junior Block — by clicking the name and typing.
Each row also shows the campus, whether that gate marks In, Out or both, and its device id with a one-click copy — a support call will ask you for that id.
Last seen and last punch are different things, on purpose
- Last seen — the last time the tablet checked in with the server
- Last punch — the last time it actually recognised somebody
A camera knocked out of position still checks in every few minutes and looks perfectly healthy. A gate that is seen but has not punched all morning is the one to go and look at.
The three statuses
- Approved — normal.
- Pending — a newly registered gate. On the standard setup a pending gate records attendance perfectly normally; it is not waiting for you. Do not go chasing an approval that changes nothing.
- Suspended — the one status that stops a gate. Use it for a holiday, or a tablet taken off the wall. It is reversible in one click and does not require anybody to sign the device in again.
The screen asks you to confirm before suspending, because a suspended gate fails quietly: a child scans, nothing looks wrong at the gate, and no attendance appears.
Which gate marked whom
The second tab answers exactly that. It opens on today across every gate, and you can narrow it by date range and by gate, or search a name. Only this person pins one person so the search runs across the whole date range on the server rather than only the rows already on screen — that is the one to use when a parent disputes a mark.
Common confusion
"A gate we removed is still listed." Suspending pauses it; removing it from the school is a revoke, which also forces a fresh staff sign-in before that tablet can ever mark again. Revoke a tablet the day it stops being yours.
"Two gates have the same name." Rename them. Nothing stops duplicates and the app does not care, but every later question about attendance does.
