That is the gate working correctly. Once somebody has been marked, the same person cannot be marked again at any gate for five minutes.
The pop-up names who it recognised, when they were marked and at which gate — so the person standing there can see their attendance is already recorded rather than wondering whether the camera saw them. It clears itself after a few seconds and the camera never stops scanning behind it, so the queue keeps moving.
Why it exists
Children walk back past the camera. Two lanes at the same door cannot see each other. Without the window, a child who passed the camera twice was recorded as arriving and then leaving thirty seconds later — a wrong departure time on the register, and a wrong message to the parent.
In and Out are counted separately
If your school runs a dedicated In gate and a dedicated Out gate, a genuine departure two minutes after an arrival is accepted normally. The five minutes applies to the same person in the same direction — an Out-scan is never blocked by the In-scan that came before it.
If one gate does both directions, a repeat scan there is blocked, and that is deliberate: at a both-directions gate the second scan of the day is written as the departure, so an accidental re-scan would clock the person out.
Things worth knowing
- The five minutes is measured by the server, not by the tablet. Restarting the app, or a tablet with the wrong time set, does not get around it.
- A blocked scan is still recorded in the gate's own log as a duplicate. Nothing is hidden — you can still see that somebody presented themselves at that gate.
- The original attendance is never altered. The block happens before anything is written, so the first mark keeps its own time and its own source.
- It applies across the whole school, not just the one tablet. That is the entire point — catching lane 2 doing what lane 1 just did.
Common confusion
"We need to re-scan someone straight away for a genuine reason." Wait it out, or mark that person from the normal attendance screen. Do not suspend the gate to get around it — that stops attendance for everybody using that door.
"Which gate marked them the first time?" The pop-up names it, and afterwards Admin › Face Attendance Gates answers it for any person and any date.
"Can the five minutes be changed?" It is a platform setting, not a school one. Ask your EDUBase contact and say why — the answer depends on how your gates are arranged.
