Yes. Staff can open the day on the biometric / QR / face device at the gate and close it from the Teacher App › Geo Location Attendance screen — and the reverse works too. Both methods write to the same attendance row, so a day can legitimately be opened by one method and closed by the other. This exists for schools whose gate congests at peak hours: entry through the device, exit from the phone. It is supported from 28 August 2026.
What must be set up first
- Geo Location Attendance switched on for the campus (HRM › Geo Location Attendance) with the campus location saved.
- The person's phone registered under Manage Registered Devices with Allow Attendance ticked.
- The person's Teacher App sign-in active on their employee record.
How a mixed day behaves
- The day opens with the first In, whichever method records it. The next mark from either method is the Out that closes the visit; a second visit works the same way (next In opens, next Out closes).
- Pressing Mark In while an In is still open answers "You already marked in. Please mark out!" — that message is the guard working, not a fault. Before this was supported, some mixed sequences answered "Can't mark out without marking in first!" even though the day had an In; that is fixed.
- If the auto-absent run already marked the person Absent, a geo Mark In fills the day in and recomputes Present / Late / Absent against the school's own Mark Late After / Mark Absent After settings.
- The Out Time rule (early out → Short Leave) applies to geo Outs exactly as it does to device Outs.
- There is a short anti-double-marking pause (5 minutes) between two marks of the same day.
Common confusion
"Attendance Already Marked for this time!" from the device is the same-minute double-scan guard — one scan is enough; the punch is already saved.
The day's Type column in employee attendance reports shows the method that wrote last; the in and out times themselves are kept from whichever method recorded them.
