Inactive or left students are appearing on the attendance marking page — how do I remove them?

Where in EDUBase: Exam & Att › Student Attendance › Take Attendance

Last updated

The attendance marking page lists active students only. This was fixed platform-side and needs nothing from the school.

If a child who has left is still on the list, they are still marked active in the system. Marking them inactive removes them.

How to mark a student inactive

  1. Open the student on Admissions › Manage Students
  2. Set their status to inactive and record the leaving date
  3. They drop off the attendance page, the teacher app and the fee screens

Do not delete them

Marking inactive keeps their attendance, fee history and results intact, which is what you need if the family returns or asks for a certificate. Deleting the record does not.

Where else this shows

  • Attendance marking — inactive students are excluded
  • Teacher App — the class list follows the same rule
  • Fee defaulter lists and strength reports — inactive students are not counted

A leaver who is still active will therefore keep appearing everywhere, and will keep being counted in your student strength.

Common confusion

"I marked them inactive but they are still on today's list." Refresh the page. If attendance was already marked for that day, that record stays in the reports until it is removed. It can be deleted on Exam & Att (formerly Exam & Attendance) › Student Attendance › View/Update Attendance — but that screen lists active students' records only, so delete the row before marking the student inactive.

"Should I use inactive, or move them to a leavers class?" Inactive. A separate class distorts every class-wise report.
