Set the rule on Core › Student Attendance Fine, then tick Add Attendance Fine when you generate the challan. Both halves are needed — the rule alone charges nothing.
Setting the rule
Press Create and fill four boxes:
- Campus — the rule applies to this campus
- Attendance Acronym — which mark is being fined (Absent, Late, Leave …)
- Allowed — how many of that mark a student may have for free
- Fine After Allowed — the amount charged for each one beyond that
The fine works out as (times marked − allowed) × fine amount. With Absent, Allowed 3, Fine 50: a student absent 6 times is charged 3 × 50 = 150. A student absent 3 times or fewer is charged nothing.
You can add several rules — one for Absent and another for Late, for example. Each is worked out separately and the results are added together.
The two things that catch people out
1. It is off unless you tick it. The fine is only applied when Add Attendance Fine is ticked on the challan generation screen. Generating without that tick produces a challan with no fine, even though the rule is set.
2. It counts the PREVIOUS month. A challan for September is fined on August's attendance, not September's — the month being billed has not finished yet when the challan goes out. So a student who was absent in September sees the fine on the October challan.
Steps
- Go to Core › Student Attendance Fine
- Press Create, choose the campus and the attendance mark
- Enter Allowed and Fine After Allowed, save
- When generating challans, tick Add Attendance Fine
Common confusion
"The fine is smaller than I expected." The allowed count is subtracted first — only the marks beyond it are charged.
"Attendance was corrected after the challan went out." The challan keeps the fine it was issued with. Correct it on the challan, or adjust it on the next month's.
"No fine at all, and the rule looks right." Check that attendance for the previous month was actually marked, and that the acronym on the rule is the same one the teachers use.
