Exam › Subject Groups is the list of groups that subjects are filed under (for example Academics, Islamiat & Languages, Co-curricular). It is one of the four exam settings screens — Subject Groups, Subjects, Subjects in Classes and Test Type — and it is the one to fill first: every subject you create on Exam › Subjects must belong to one group. A school that does not split subjects simply keeps the default Academics group and puts everything in it.
Steps
- Open Exam › Subject Groups. The form is at the top, the list below.
- Type a Subject Group name and press Create. The form has that one box and nothing else (naya group banate waqt sirf naam chahiye). The name must be new — a duplicate is refused ("already been taken").
- To rename, press the pencil on the row, change the name and press Update. Renaming to a name another group already uses is refused.
- To reorder, use the up / down arrows on a row; the new order is saved immediately ("Order Sorted") and is the order the groups appear in the Subject Group dropdown on Exam › Subjects.
- To remove a group, press the bin and confirm.
Common confusion
- "Failed To Delete Subject Group. It May Associate With Subjects" — subjects are still filed under that group. Move each of them to another group on Exam › Subjects (edit the subject, change its Subject Group) and delete again. Groups holding subjects are never deleted underneath their subjects.
- Where the grouping is used: the Subject Group Wise Report (Examination Reports) prints each student's subjects group by group with a total, percentage and graph per group. Groups appear on that report in the order they were first created, not the up/down order set here — reordering changes dropdowns and this list, not that report.
- Result cards, award lists and date sheets do not group by subject group; a subject's group only matters on the group-wise report and in the Subjects list.
- Groups are school-wide, not per campus. There is nothing to assign per class — classes get subjects (Exam › Subjects in Classes), and each subject already carries its group.
