Yes. Lecture-wise salary is for colleges and academies that pay visiting faculty for the lectures they actually delivered, at a rate that can differ by class or subject.
It is a per-person setting. One institute can pay most staff a monthly salary and a few people per lecture, in the same payroll run.
The four steps
- Switch the person over — HRM › Salary › Update Salary Plan. Tick Pay this person per lecture and set a default rate per lecture. Nothing else affects their pay until this is ticked.
- Set rates if they differ — HRM › Salary › Lecture Rates. Skip this if every lecture is worth the same amount.
- Record and approve the lectures — HRM › Salary › Lecture Register. Only approved lectures are paid.
- Calculate the salary as usual — HRM › Salary › Calculate/Generate Salary, then Pay/Print Salary. There is no separate lecture payroll.
What happens to allowances and attendance fines
By default a lecture-wise person is paid only for their lectures — the earnings on their salary plan are not paid, because the lectures are the salary. Tick Also pay the earnings above if they also get, say, a conveyance allowance.
Earnings that are not paid are recorded as zero on the generated salary rather than being carried across from the plan. That is why a lecture-wise payslip does not list a monthly Basic Salary beside a much smaller total — the zero is the honest record of what was paid.
Attendance deductions do apply. They follow the Attendance based deduction tick on the salary run itself, exactly like every other employee — being on lecture-wise salary does not exempt anybody. If you do not want a person fined for absence, either give them enough Allowed days on the deduction rule or set their deduction to zero on their own plan; do not expect lecture-wise salary to do it for you.
What a percentage deduction is a percentage OF. For a lecture-wise person a "day's pay" is worked out from that month's lecture earnings — a share of what they actually earned that month, not a share of a monthly salary they are not paid, and not the price of one lecture. The Calculate Salary preview and the payslip both state the amount, the basis, and where the basis came from, so the figure can be checked rather than argued about.
Common confusion
"Is this the same as Lecture Based Incentive?" No, and this catches people out. The older Lecture Based Incentive tick adds a flat amount per lecture on top of a fixed salary and keeps attendance fines. Lecture-wise salary replaces the salary. If both are ticked, lecture-wise wins and the card warns you — untick one so the plan says what it means.
"The teacher's total is zero." Almost always the plan tick is missing, or the lectures are still waiting for approval. Check the Lecture Register — the card at the top of each teacher says how many are waiting.
"Nobody can open the new screens." They are new privileges and start held by nobody. Grant HRM › Lecture Rates, Lecture Register, Lecture Approval and Lecture Salary Report in Admin › Users & Privileges.
