Can EDUBase give roll numbers automatically, class-wise, on a new admission (Roll Number Series)?

Last updated

Yes. Go to Core › Roll Number Series, set a series, and every new admission whose Roll No box is left empty is given the next number in it by itself — roll number khud ba khud lag jata hai, with nothing to type on the admission form.

The screen has its own permission. If it is not in your Core menu, ask your school administrator for Roll Number Series in Users & Privileges — it is listed under Core Settings there.

Nothing happens until two things are true

  1. Assign roll numbers automatically on a new admission is ticked, and
  2. a series covers the class the child is being admitted into.

Until both are true, admissions behave exactly as before. This is off for every school by default.

A roll number you type is always kept

The series only fills an empty box. Whatever you type into Roll No is what gets saved, and nothing on this screen ever changes the roll number of a student who already exists.

Where the series lives is your choice

Each line on the screen is its own series, widest to narrowest:

LineWhat it numbers
Whole schoolone running number for every child
A campusone running number per campus
A whole classone series shared by all its sections
One sectionthat section numbers on its own, from 1

The most specific line that fits the child wins — they are not added together. Set a whole-school series and also one for Class 1 Section A, and a child admitted into Class 1 Section A gets the section's number while everybody else gets the school's.

Prefix, start and digits

Prefix RN-, digits 4, start 501 gives RN-0501, then RN-0502. Leave the prefix empty and digits at 0 for plain numbers. Next number shows what the next admission would get; it moves on its own.

If you already use roll numbers

Highest in use on each line shows the largest number already given out there, so you can start past it. And Skip numbers already given to a student (on by default) makes the series step over any number already on a child instead of repeating it.

Children already on the roll

Fill blanks beside a class or section numbers every enrolled student there who has none, oldest admission first. It never touches a student who already has one.

Bulk admissions

Also number Add Bulk Students and the student file upload applies the same rule on those two screens — again, only where the roll number cell is empty.

This is not the exam roll number

Extras › Roll No. Slip › Assign Roll Numbers numbers students for an examination. This screen is the class roll number a child is given when admitted. Two different fields, two different screens.
