Parents app: how login codes work

What a parent does to sign in, and what to do when they say the code has not arrived.

Parents no longer use a fixed PIN. They get a fresh login code by SMS each time they sign in on a new phone.

How a parent signs in

  • Open the app and enter the mobile number.
  • Tap Send code — a text arrives: "Your EDUBASE PARENTS APP login code is 123456 (valid 10 min). Do not share it."
  • Type the code in. Done.

The rules

  • A code lasts 10 minutes and works once.
  • After signing in the parent stays signed in — a new code is only needed on a new phone, or after signing out.
  • 60 seconds between requests, so tapping repeatedly does not help.
  • 5 wrong tries locks the number for 15 minutes.
  • A parent with children at several schools gets one code for their whole account.

"I did not get the code"

  • Check the number on the student record. The code goes there — not to the number they are calling from. Fix it, then ask them to tap Send code again. This is most calls.
  • Wait a minute and retry. Texts can queue at busy times.
  • Check the app is updated. Old versions cannot request a code; the app will prompt for the Play Store update.
  • Still nothing? Read the code out from the portal (below).

The OTP portal

General → Parent App OTP Portal

  • OTP by Contact — every contact number, its children, and whether a code is active, expired, or never requested.
  • Not Installed — families that never signed in (your install-drive list). Families with no usable number are listed separately — those need a data fix, not a phone call.
  • Active vs Inactive — families using the app vs families that stopped.

The list never shows codes, only whether one is active.

Showing a code

  • Press Reveal on the contact — the code shows for about 20 seconds.
  • Every reveal is recorded (who, which number, when). That is normal when helping a parent.
  • Reveal is unavailable when: no code was requested yet · the code expired · the code was issued by another school the parent attends. In all three, ask the parent to request a new code.

What to tell parents

  • "Enter your number, tap Send code, type in the code we text you. It is valid for ten minutes."
  • "The code is yours only — nobody from the school will ever ask you for it."

If a parent says someone rang and asked them to read out their code, tell your EDUBase contact.

Codes now appear on their own

You no longer have to find a parent and press Reveal to help someone who is on the phone. General → Parent App OTP Portal → Live Requests lists every code asked for in the last two hours, already readable and counting down. See See a parent's login code the moment they ask for it.

The number is registered, but the app says it is not

  • Check which role was chosen. A father, mother or guardian mobile is a Parent login; only the student's own mobile is a Student login.
  • Parents App 12.0.9 and newer corrects this once. After the chosen role has been checked, the app can say the number is registered under the other role and continue with that sign-in automatically.
  • On an older version: go back to the role screen, choose Parent, and enter the same number again. Then update the app from Google Play.

This message does not mean the school record or Firebase must be edited. First compare the digits on Admissions → Manage Students; only change the student record when the number itself is different.
