A school that uses the QR / biometric gate often wants a list of children who have not scanned in shortly after the bell, so someone can call their parents. That list is not Take Attendance.
What you set
- Exam › Manage Shifts — the class In time (for example 7:30 AM) and a matching Out time.
- Admin › QR Biometric Attendance — Mark Absent After minutes of that In time (for example 30, so 8:00 AM), and tick every class under Auto-Absent Classes.
Mark Absent After does two jobs: a child who scans that late is recorded Absent instead of Present/Late, and a child who never scans is written Absent by the auto-absent job once that time has passed. The job is not instant — it checks about every 15 minutes between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM. A class that is not ticked is never auto-marked, whatever the minutes say.
Where to read the list
Open Exam & Attendance › Absentees, set From and To to today, and press Get Record. Father and mother numbers are on the grid so the person who calls parents can work from one screen. Children already marked Present by a real scan do not appear there.
Why Take Attendance still shows Present
Take Attendance is the manual register. Every unmarked student starts as Present so a teacher only changes the few who are not. That default is not a QR scan and it is not the auto-absent result. Once the job has written Absent, those children leave Take Attendance (the day is already marked) and show on View/Update Attendance and on Absentees.
Nobody is auto-marked absent on a day in Core › Holiday Calendar.
