A gate is a tablet running the EDUBase Face Attendance app. It adds itself to this screen the first time a member of your staff signs it in — there is nothing to register by hand.
Where it is
Admin → Face Attendance Gates. Nobody can open it until you grant it: tick Admin :: Face Attendance Gates in Admin → Users & Privileges. Even your own school administrator login starts without it, so grant it to whoever looks after your attendance hardware.
Name your gates first
Every gate arrives with a name the tablet chose, and schools commonly end up with four devices all called “Gate”. Press Rename and type what your staff actually call it — Main Gate, Girls Wing Out, Junior Block. This is not decoration: that name is the answer you will read out when a parent asks which gate marked their child. Until you set it, the only thing identifying the tablet is a 36-character device id.
What each status means
- Approved — recording attendance normally.
- Suspended — paused. The gate records nothing until you set it back, and anyone scanning there is simply not marked. Use it for a gate that is closed for the holidays, or a tablet that has been taken down. It is reversible from this screen in one click and it does not require anyone to sign the tablet in again.
- Pending — registered but not yet approved. On most systems approval is not required, so a pending gate keeps recording; the screen tells you which way your system is set in the notice above the table.
- Removed — the tablet was retired or reported lost. It cannot record anything, and it stays in the list, greyed, only so that last month's attendance can still name the gate that marked it. Bringing a removed tablet back needs a fresh staff sign-in at the tablet itself.
Last seen is not the same as last marked
The list shows both, and the difference is the point. Last seen is the last time the tablet spoke to EDUBase at all. Last marked someone is the last time it actually recognised a face. A camera that has been covered, knocked out of position or pointed at a wall still checks in every few minutes and looks perfectly healthy — until you notice it has not recognised anybody since Tuesday.
Which gate marked a person
- Open the Which gate marked whom tab. It opens on today, every gate.
- Set the dates, and a gate if you want just one.
- Type the person's name in Find a name.
- Press Only this person on their row to follow that one person across the whole period.
Find a name searches the rows already loaded, so on a busy morning it is limited by the row count you chose. Only this person is different — it asks the server, so it finds every scan they made between those dates.
Reading the result column
- Marked — recognised, and their attendance was written.
- Already marked — recognised, but they had been marked a few minutes earlier, so the mark they already have stands. This is normal and not an error. It is what stops a child who walks back past the camera being recorded as leaving thirty seconds after arriving.
- Not marked — the scan was refused, and the reason is printed beside it.
Two things this screen deliberately does not do
- It cannot remove a gate. Removing a tablet is the stolen-device action; it cancels the tablet's access and undoing it needs somebody to sign in at the tablet again. It stays on the app itself and with EDUBase support. Suspend is the reversible pause this screen offers instead.
- It does not change attendance. Nothing here edits a mark. Correct attendance where you always have — Exam & Attendance → Student Attendance, or HRM → Attendance for staff.
