Exam › Manage Shifts holds the student timetable that QR and biometric attendance compares scans against: for each campus-class an In shift (arrival time per weekday) and an Out shift (leaving time). New shifts are made on Exam › Manage Shifts › Add.
Create and edit In and Out together
- Open Exam & Att → Exam Settings → Manage Shifts (Student) and choose Add In and Out shifts.
- Choose a name and the campus classes. For each class, choose All sections for the default or an individual section for an override.
- Set In and Out times for each weekday. Set Off day separately when a direction is not needed. Out must follow In when both are active.
- Save both directions together. Use Edit In and Out to change the pair; a failed save keeps your entries. If another person edited it, reload before saving.
Section schedules take priority over class defaults, including section off days. Existing matching In and Out records appear together only when their full mappings match uniquely. Legacy shifts remains available for the previous single-direction workflow. Deleting a paired row removes both schedules and the listed mappings, while recorded attendance remains.
What the times do
- A scan is compared with the class's In time for that weekday. Mark Late After and Mark Absent After minutes (Admin › QR Biometric Attendance) decide Present, Late or Absent; the "10 minutes Late" text on the reader and in the SMS is the gap from this time.
- A later scan the same day is compared with the Out time and stored as On Time / Early / Late out.
- The automatic absent marking (classes ticked under Auto-Absent Classes on Admin › QR Biometric Attendance) also works from these times: a student who has not scanned by the class's In time plus the "Mark Absent After" minutes is marked Absent on the next auto-absent pass (about every 15 minutes from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM). Until that pass, Take Attendance still shows unmarked children as Present — that is the unmarked default, not a QR scan. Pull the early parent-call list from Exam › Absentees. A class with no In/Out shift is never auto-marked.
Common confusion
- "Student Decided time In or Out not found!" on the reader — the class has an In shift but no Out shift (or the reverse), today is an Off Day for it, or that day's time was left blank. On an Off Day scans are refused, not marked.
- "Student Shift In or Out not found!" — the student's class is not set up under the student's campus at all, so there is no class to look a shift up for. Adding shifts will not clear this one.
- Saving refuses a class: "already associated with the same shift type" — that class already has an In (or Out) shift. Edit that shift and add the class there instead.
- Editing a shift replaces its class list with what is ticked; a class you untick loses the shift.
- Deleting a shift removes it from every class linked to it and cannot be undone.
- The list shows one row per class link, so one shift covering five classes shows five rows.
- Staff timings are separate: HRM › Manage Shifts.
Duplicate attendance summary rows
Attendance Summary counts each campus, class and section identity once, even if institute setup contains a duplicate mapping. Two distinct section IDs remain separate, even when their displayed names match.
