The result SMS says 0 marks for a child who was absent — can it say Absent? Can the result message come as points (Exam Alert, Subject, Student Name, Obtained Marks), and can I see it before it is sent?

Where in EDUBase: Exam & Att › Examination › Update Marks and SMS

Absent and leave no longer say 0

A student marked A (absent) or L (leave) on the award list is stored with 0 marks, and the result message used to print that 0 — "Got 0/30 Marks in Subject English". Every result message now says why instead, whichever screen or app sends it:

  • Individual (one message per subject): "Absent in the English test held on 2026-07-08 in CT-3." The rest of the school's own text — greeting, name, class, sign-off — stays as it is.
  • Subject Combine: that subject's line reads "English: Absent" (or "English: On leave").
  • Combine: a child who missed every subject gets "Absent in CT-3." instead of a total of 0.

The 0 is still what the result card and the totals count — only the message changed.

Choose the format, and read every message before it goes

  • Exam & Att › Examination › Update Marks and SMS — tick Father, Mother or Student and press Save & Send SMS. The marks are saved first, then the Send result SMS window opens. With Parent App Notification ticked, Update Marks opens the same window for the notification.
  • Exam & Att › Examination › View Marks and SMS — press Get Record, tick the results and contacts, then Individual SMS, Subject Combine SMS or Combine SMS.

In the window, nothing is sent until you press Send:

  1. Message type — Individual (one per subject), Subject Combine (all subjects plus total), Combine (total, percentage, grade).
  2. Format:
    • School's own template — the text saved in Exam › SMS Template, as before.
    • Exam Alert — points — Exam Alert, then Subject:, Student Name:, Obtained Marks:, Class:, Exam: and Date: each on its own line, then the school name.
    • Short — one line — name, class, exam, subject and marks on one line; usually a single SMS.
  3. Read the real messages: who receives each one (Father / Mother / Student and the number), how long it is and roughly how many SMS it becomes, and … will not get a message — see why for students who are skipped.
  4. Press Send — or close the window / press Don't send to send nothing. On Update Marks and SMS the marks stay saved either way.

The window remembers the last format chosen on that computer.

Common confusion

"Save & Send SMS dabaya, message nahi gaya — ek window khul gayi." That window is the preview. Press Send in it. Closing it sends nothing; the marks are already saved.

"Points format mein hamara apna text nahi aata." Exam Alert — points and Short are fixed layouts. To keep your own wording, choose School's own template and change the text in Exam › SMS Template.

"A student is missing from the preview." Open … will not get a message — see why. Usually there is no number for the ticked contact, or it is a combined message for a class with no grading policy (Exam › Class Grading Policy).

"The result still says 0 for a child who was absent." The child was not marked A or L on the award list — a typed 0 is a real mark. Tick A for that subject in Update Marks and SMS and save.
